@Bonkers Feedback = good. More feedback helps us make the show better. We’re recording tonight, and it’ll be just RJ, Peter, and me, so you’ll probably get a little more STB this week. It’s harder to not talk over each other with four people, but I like the dynamic of it.
peter is the only one who talks over other people. everyone else is not an asshole. every topic centers on what he wants to discuss.

If you want feedback STB, then try get pete to shut up once in a while, his stories are funny but the show isn’t called petezilla, i’d like to hear more of your escapades and Rj’s tales. Also the Mic quality needs to be standard every week, it’s unpleasent listening to shit mic crackles one week but then have it pristine the next.

I like the show as is. Really what you guys are doing is fine, I like the chaos ramble and that the show has been about “games” but never really talks about games except for like 10 minutes out of the show.
I don’t think it matters if the volume varies from show to show but the song breaks are so much louder than the actual show I end up lunging for my speakers to turn them down.

Yeah, the music is fair too loud at points, also i have no qualms with the chaotic ramblings and minimal game discussion, i just dislike the fact that, for example, RJ could be telling a story and pete will cut in with his own less funny story, that just breaks the flow of the podcast IMO
you’re going to have to give an example of RJ telling a FUNNIER story and me killing it — I have my doubts that that has ever happened.
regarding mic quality: I agree, but it’s all but unavoidable.
– Bob: very consistent
– Peter: usually pretty consistent, but he got a new mic so Episode 24 will probably have some issues with his track
– Drac: consistent, but can’t tape very often
– Jefferson: sometimes uses his own cheap-o mic, sometimes at his friend’s house with a closer-to-professional setup
– STB: Episode 22 was OK, but I started off too loud. Episode 23 I had the mic in a different spot, hence the cave effect. For Episode 24 I put the mic BACK where it was in Ep22, but was conscious of the levels, so it should be better.
So, as you can see, people changing mics, playing with placement of the mic, etc. is a factor.
For the OTHER audio quality issues, I also agree. Sometimes the music is too loud, and the BEEPs definitely are. The problem here is that Peter, Bob, and Drac take turns editing so it’s hard to get a consistent level because of their different setups.
All of this being said, I think our show always sounds *really* good, especially compared to most of the shit out there. Especially considering we don’t record in a booth, don’t have trained editing staff, and basically just throw the show together using free (or almost free) tools.
@Darth Bobby: I also like that it’s free form and we don’t necessarily consciously take turns talking. If we did that, it’d sound incredibly forced, and that just isn’t the feel we’re going for. We genuinely want it to come off like a bunch of pals just sitting around talking about games. In real life, one dude almost always has more to say. There have been very few instances that Peter railroaded the conversation to the point it was annoying to me, but I’m sure that depends on the listener.

actually, I do have a real question. I got a real-life XLR based condensor mic, and I’m using it with my computer via a USB interface… basically an effects module that goes into my USB and has inputs for XLR, 1/4, etc.
it works nice, but when I’m using it and skype and the USB headphones at the same time, the level of output is constantly fluxuating, and sometimes dies, and it’s totally weird. my ONLY thought is that maybe my USB devices are competing for JUICE. any technical dudes have any thoughts?
It stems from your graphics adaptor pete, which will be designed for gaming. This takes the lions share of system resources and devoted them to the graphics subsystem, which robs the USB bus of valuable cycles which has a detrimental effect on high bandwith apps like Audio devices. The reasone you will have never noticed this problem before is because most consumer standard and gaming perephirals are Low bandwith devices, and as such aren’t affected by the loss of cycles. To fix it you go to Windows DISPLAY PROPERTIES dialog, choose the SETTINGS tab, click the ADVANCED button and then select TROUBLESHOOT tab. There will be a slider called HARDWARE ACCELERATION which should be set to full. Drag it to none and click through the dialog boxes, when you next record you’ll have no audio dropouts. The only thing is most video intensive applications won’t run with hardware accel turned off, so you’ll need to turn it off before you record, then back on after. Hope that helps pete.

FEAR 2 was such a let down. FEAR was amazing shit when it came out. OMGZ0RZ teh graphix, physics, and AI… I was so amazed. FEAR 2 is nothing special, unlike FEAR 1.

I like that STB takes concerns and notes to make the podcast better, not just saying, “Fuck the listeners!” like Pete. But, I suppose that’s his charm. Here’s to someone taking criticism and improving their craft!
